Malaysia MICE Journalism Awards 2011

What is MICE?

MICE, an acronym for Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions, has brought in RM11 billion in visitor spend in 2010 and has been recently identified as one of the key Entry Point Projects (EPPs) under the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP). MICE is also known as business events.

What is Malaysian MICE Journalism Awards?

Malaysian MICE Journalism Awards (MMJA) 2011 which will be held for the first time this year will recognize excellence in business events journalism. The reports can include interviews with MICE industry leaders, write-up on meeting venues, special reports on the industry, or anything that creates awareness about this industry.

The following are some sample of reports about business events

‘Sarawak strengthens grounds in global MICE industry’ (Bernama)

Malaysia: Making Inroads into MICE’ (SME)

‘SCB keen on developing West Malaysia market’

Sungai Sarawak Jadi Laluan Lalulintas Alternatif’ (Bernama)

Who is eligible?

If you are a full-time journalist and have produced any reports about this exciting industry, be it print, online or broadcast, you are eligible.

To qualify, reports must be published or aired between 1 January 2011 and 8 August 2011.

What are the categories?

Best Print Feature Category (minimum of 800 words in length, we have reduced it from 1500 words!)

Best Broadcast Special Report Category (minimum of 1 minute in length)

Special Category-Sarawak (can be either print/online/TV-same criteria as above)

Works produced can be in any of the three main languages, i.e. English, Bahasa Melayu and Chinese. For Special Category, articles/stories must be on the MICE industry in Sarawak.

What are the prizes?

Winners of each category will receive an all paid convention package worth RM10,000 which can be used to attend any journalism conference of their choice, plus RM 2,000 in cash.

When is the closing date?

Closing date for entries is on 4pm 15 August 2011
