KOTA KINABALU, Saturday, July 31, 2021 – Journalists, photographers and producers from the print,
electronic and online media in Sabah and Labuan can now submit entries for the 2021 Kinabalu Press
Awards (KPA) starting August 1, 2021.

The closing date for submission is August 31, 2021, said Sabah Journalists Association (SJA) president
Datuk Muguntan Vanar.

“We are happy to announce that State Government under Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has
reiterated its generous and continued support for the annual event to honour media excellence,” he
said.

Also on board to sponsor the event are Petronas and Sabah Shell.

“We are very thankful for their support especially during these very challenging times facing the State
and the nation.”

Due to Covid-19 situation in 2020, the KPA was put hold.

The SJA decided this year to go ahead with calling in with submissions for the event that will cover
entries from 2019 and 2020.

However, due to ongoing Covid-19 situation in the State, the committee will decide on later date on
whether a gala dinner event would be held or a simple low key event for the prize presentation will
be held later this year.

“We encourage print, online and broadcast journalists as well as photographers to join in the
competition that honours the best of the best in the media field,” he said.

All entries are to be submitted via online: www.mpi.my/form/kinabalu-press-award-2021-entry-form.
Entry forms and rules and regulations can also be obtained from the SJA organising committee within
the submission period.

For this year’s awards, SJA has decided to allow submission from journalists, photographers, and
cameramen, who had worked during 2019-2020 but are now no longer in the profession.

This decision is made to appreciate the contribution of many journalists who had lost their job due
to retrenchment or cost-cutting measures or had left the line during the Covid-19 pandemic.

For any query, please contact the SJA organising committee at 019-8508059 (Aisyah) or 012-345 5696 (Ricardo).

Details of the categories, prize and rule and regulations are attached.

Ends.
