GENTING HIGHLANDS, July 28 – As Malaysia advances a more flexible education system under the theme “More Than One Road to Success,” industry experts are playing an increasingly important role in developing professional programmes that meet both industry expectations and international standards. In support of this vision, a briefing on the Certified Professional in Education Design (CPED) under the Akademi Dalam Industri (ADI) initiative brought together education and industry leaders to strengthen curriculum design, instructional development and quality assurance for professional qualifications.
The session highlighted the strategic role of CPED as a prerequisite for organisations intending to develop and offer international professional diploma programmes. Participants were introduced to the six core CPED modules, which focus on curriculum design, learning outcomes, instructional strategies, programme delivery and assessment frameworks to ensure professional qualifications are industry-driven, competency-based and internationally recognised.
Participants were also informed that the six CPED programmes implemented under the initiative have collectively produced more than 200 Education Designers, who are now contributing to the design and development of industry-based education and professional training programmes across various sectors.
Another key highlight of the briefing was the emphasis on quality assurance. All modules developed by industry experts have undergone a comprehensive review by the London Examination Board (LEB) before being approved for implementation, ensuring every programme complies with internationally recognised academic and professional standards.
The briefing was delivered by Prof. Dr. Azlan Hj. Alias (Honorary Advisor For Educational Design UTMSpace Services Sdn. Bhd.), who shared insights into curriculum architecture, instructional design and the role of Education Designers in building sustainable, industry-led professional qualifications.
The programme was attended by representatives from the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI), led by Chief Executive Officer Dr. Ainol Amriz Ismail, together with Ts. Dr. Zulimran Ahmad and Ts. Dr. Zulbaile Abdullah who serve as Academic Advisors for MPI’s professional programmes, as well as Ibrahim Darman, Head of Social Media.
Also in attendance were Dr. Mithaq Ab. Mutalib representing UTMSpace and Encik Mohamad Muzaffar Abdul Hamid, Director of the Human Productivity Division, Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC).
MPI’s participation reflects the institute’s commitment to strengthening its capability in curriculum development and instructional design as it prepares to introduce internationally benchmarked professional programmes for the journalism and media industry under the Akademi Dalam Industri (ADI) initiative. The engagement also reinforces closer collaboration between industry, higher education institutions and government agencies in developing flexible, competency-based learning pathways that are aligned with the future needs of Malaysia’s workforce.
