KUALA LUMPUR: The Prime Minister’s Office has reminded media publications to strengthen their fact-checking process in light of a news outlet’s publishing error involving the Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail.
The prime minister’s senior press secretary, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, said editorial misjudgment can erode public confidence in the integrity of civil servants.
He said the government consistently upholds media freedom as one of the pillars of democracy. However, he said freedom without discipline can erode the truth.
