OVERVIEW
A practical training programme designed to strengthen spokesperson competencies, equipping participants with the skills to craft key messages, engage confidently with journalists, manage media interactions, and handle interviews, press conferences, and challenging communication scenarios professionally and effectively.
OBJECTIVES
By the end of the course, participants should be able to:
Demonstrate a clear understanding of the spokesperson’s role and how to represent the organisation professionally.
Craft and deliver key messages that meet news requirements and organisational objectives.
Interact confidently with journalists across various interview formats, including studio, podcast, press conference and doorstop scenarios.
Apply effective media-handling techniques during challenging or crisis situations to maintain message clarity and credibility.

Understanding the Role of an Organisational Spokesperson, Media Landscape and Understanding Journalists’ Needs
Crafting Key Messages Using the 5W1H Framework
Practical activity:
Key-message development workshop.
Principles of Basic Media Management and Message Control
Practical activity: Media query handling drills.
Effective Interviewing Techniques for Broadcast and Online Media
Practical activity:
Studio-style interview simulation
Podcast conversational interview
Handling Press Conferences and On-the-Spot Interviews (Doorstop/“Terjah”)
Practical activity:
Press conference simulation
Doorstop interview simulation
METHODOLOGY
This course content will be delivered through short lectures, group discussions, group presentations, role-play and skill practise during the training programme.
