MPI Secures RM1.037 Million for MWM 2026 / HKM 2025

PETALING JAYA, 25 June – The Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) has secured RM1.037 million in contributions from corporate organisations, government-linked companies (GLCs), government agencies and media organisations to support the Malaysian Journalists’ Night 2026 (MWM 2026) and celebrate excellence in Malaysian journalism.

The contributions include RM450,000 from PETRONAS, which continues its long-standing commitment as the title sponsor of the MPI-PETRONAS Malaysian Journalism Awards 2025 (HKM 2025), as well as RM587,000 from 60 organisations supporting the organisation of MWM 2026, scheduled to take place on 17 July at The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

The appreciation ceremony, held at Hilton Petaling Jaya, brought together about 150 guests, including representatives from the corporate sector, GLCs, government agencies, media organisations and industry stakeholders. Representatives from 45 contributing organisations presented mock cheques as a symbolic gesture of their support for one of Malaysia’s most prestigious annual journalism events.

MPI Chief Executive Officer Dr Ainol Amriz Ismail said the contributions reflect the shared belief that a strong and credible media industry is essential to a well-informed society.

“Collectively, MPI has received RM1.037 million in contributions to date. This support goes far beyond funding an annual event. It is an investment in professional journalism and a clear demonstration of confidence in the role of credible media.

“The future of journalism cannot rest solely on media organisations. It requires the commitment of government agencies, the corporate sector, educational institutions and strategic partners who understand that trusted journalism remains fundamental to national development,” he said.

PETRONAS has been the title sponsor of the Malaysian Journalism Awards since 1994, making it MPI’s longest-standing strategic partner in recognising outstanding journalistic achievement.

The ceremony also featured the third edition of the Thought Forum: Media Evolution & Industry Transformation, where media leaders explored issues ranging from artificial intelligence and digital transformation to business sustainability, content monetisation and the growing importance of public trust in an increasingly fragmented media landscape.

Speaking on the significance of the forum, Dr Ainol said it was designed to encourage meaningful dialogue between the media industry and its stakeholders.

“This forum is not just about technology or emerging trends. It is about understanding how media organisations and industry partners can work together to strengthen public trust, support responsible storytelling and build a more sustainable future for journalism,” he said.

The Malaysian Journalists’ Night 2026 will culminate in the presentation of the MPI-PETRONAS Malaysian Journalism Awards 2025, widely regarded as the country’s highest recognition for excellence in journalism. #mpicommit
