Media Must Reinvent or Risk Becoming Irrelevant, Says Karangkraf Media Group CEO

PETALING JAYA, 25 June 2026 _ The future of the media industry will not be determined by technology alone, but by the willingness of media organisations to reinvent themselves while preserving the values that define credible journalism.

Speaking during a talk titled “Media Evolution & Industry Transformation: Evolution, Reality & the Future of the Industry,” Puan Firdaus Hussamuddin, Chief Executive Officer of Karangkraf Media Group, shared insights from the organisation’s transformation journey and outlined the challenges and opportunities facing the media industry in an era shaped by artificial intelligence, digital disruption and rapidly evolving audience behaviour.

She argued that the real question is no longer traditional versus digital. Instead, the industry must ask who is capable of building and sustaining trust in a world overwhelmed by noise, misinformation and an endless stream of competing content. While technology continues to reshape the way news is created and distributed, she stressed that trust remains journalism’s most valuable asset.

Firdaus said media organisations today are competing not only with one another, but also with social platforms, content creators and algorithms that relentlessly fight for public attention. In such an environment, relevance cannot be assumed, it must be earned through innovation, credibility and a clear understanding of what audiences need and value.

Drawing on Karangkraf Media Group’s own transformation, she emphasised that sustainable growth requires media organisations to embrace innovation, diversify business models and strengthen digital capabilities without compromising editorial integrity, professional ethics and public confidence.

She concluded by reminding participants that the future will not belong to the organisations with the latest technology, but to those that earn and protect public trust.
